Summary

This bill requires the Architect of the Capitol to remove the bust of Chief Justice Roger Brooke Taney from the Old Supreme Court Chamber of the U.S. Capitol to replace it with a bust of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall that must be obtained by the Joint Committee on the Library. Chief Justice Taney authored the 1857 Dred Scott v. Sandford decision that declared African Americans were not U.S. citizens and could not sue in federal courts.
