Mr. Luján introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions


A BILL

To allow manufacturers and sponsors of a drug to use alternative testing methods to animal testing to investigate the safety and effectiveness of a biological product.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. Short title.

This Act may be cited as the “Reducing Animal Testing Act”.

SEC. 2. New approach methodologies.

Item (bb) of section 351(k)(2)(A)(i)(I) of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 262(k)(2)(A)(i)(I)) is amended to read as follows:

“(bb) an assessment of toxicity (which may rely on, or consist of, a study or studies described in item (aa) or (cc)); and”.
