Mrs. Dingell introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce


A BILL

To amend the consumer product safety laws to repeal the exclusion of pistols, revolvers, and other firearms from the definition of consumer product under such laws.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. Short title.

This Act may be cited as the “Defective Firearms Protection Act”.

SEC. 2. Repeal of exclusion of pistols, revolvers, and other firearms.

(a) Definition of consumer product.—Section 3(a)(5) of the Consumer Product Safety Act (15 U.S.C. 2052(a)(5)) is amended by striking subparagraph (E).

(b) Rulemaking authority.—Section 3 of the Consumer Product Safety Commission Improvements Act of 1976 (15 U.S.C. 2080 note) is amended by striking subsection (e).
