Summary
The bill repeals the requirement for a defendant to pay to the Colorado bureau of investigation (bureau) any costs related to sealing the defendant's criminal justice records in the bureau's custody. The bill requires the bureau to, on or before June 30, 2026, waive the costs for a person whose records are in the bureau's custody but are not yet sealed. The bill reduces a cash fund appropriation made in the general appropriation act for the 2024-25 state fiscal year to the department of public safety (department) for the bureau's biometric identification and records unit. The bill appropriates $531,570 to the department for the bureau's biometric identification and records unit. (Note: Italicized words indicate new material added to the original summary; dashes through words indicate deletions from the original summary.) (Note: This summary applies to the reengrossed version of this bill as introduced in the second house.)
