To require an annual report on the costs to the Department of State associated with producing required reports, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
This Act may be cited as the “Department of State Reporting Requirements Cost Transparency Act”.
SEC. 2. Inclusion of cost associated with producing reports.
(a) Estimated cost of reports.—Beginning on October 1, 2026, and for the next three fiscal years, the Secretary of State shall require that any report produced for external distribution, including for distribution to Congress, includes the total estimated cost of producing such report and the estimated number of personnel hours.
(b) Annual total cost of reports.—Not later than 90 days after the end of each fiscal year, beginning with fiscal year 2025, and for the next three fiscal years, the Secretary shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees and the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate and the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives an annual report listing the reports issued for the prior fiscal year, the frequency of each report, the total estimated cost associated with producing such report, and the estimated number of personnel hours.
