The bill establishes a task force to address shark depredation, comprising representatives from fisheries management councils, marine fisheries commissions, wildlife agencies, and experts in shark management and behavior. The task force will identify research priorities, develop management strategies, and coordinate education efforts for minimizing shark interactions. Additionally, it amends the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act to include projects for understanding and addressing shark depredation. The bill does not affect the Secretary of Commerce's authority under the Endangered Species Act or the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. The task force will submit reports to Congress every 2 years until its termination after 7 years.
