The bill aims to establish a process for the preservation of records of Afghan allies who supported the United States mission in Afghanistan from December 22, 2001, to September 1, 2021. This includes creating an application system with a secure online portal for individuals to verify their status as Afghan allies. The Secretary of Defense will review requests for classification and records preservation, allowing applicants to appeal denials. The application process will terminate no earlier than 10 years after the enactment of the Act. The bill also prohibits charging fees for requests and allows applicants to be represented by an attorney or accredited representative during the application process.
