The bill mandates the procurement of commercial space-based data by the Department of Defense to aid in wildfire resilience efforts. This data will support the Defense Department and the wildfire mission of the US Northern Command to help protect military readiness and installations, provide emergency military support to civil authorities, and facilitate proactive wildland fire management. Additionally, the Secretary is authorized to share the procured data with state, local, and tribal governments to assist in firefighting efforts.
